Building Clay and Wood Models. Making models of the armor pieces is the most time consuming part of this project. some models take over a week to create, then only a few minutes to vacuum form. There are many ways to create the models, This guide describes how to create the models out of clay and wood. It is up to you to decide which method to use. Clay seems like it would be the easiest, but I have had much better luck forming my pieces out of MDF. I like making them out of wood because there is no need to create plaster casts of the models. Building plaster casts is time consuming and is pretty difficult to master the techniques. Wood models can be vacuum formed, thus eliminating the need to create any plaster casts. The Plasticine clay can be pretty expensive. It is up to you to decide which method to use. I used both methods for creating my models and I have the pros and cons of each listed below. |
Clay and Plaster | Wood | ||
Pros | Easy to add and remove sculpting material. Doesn't require many special tools. |

|
Cons | Clay and plaster can be expensive Plaster casting is time consuming Plaster casting is difficult |
